EXHIBIT + LIVE MUSIC + FUNDRAISER

AUGUST 23RD at the LENTS COLLECTIVE (9209 SE Foster Rd., Portland, OR 97266)

Join us this Friday, August 23rd from 6-9pm, for a powerful evening of compassion, community, and fundraising for RAICES.

The Lents Collective presents the 'Bronze Shoes Installation Project.’ This visually compelling protest art, created by local artist Aimee Sitarz, uses children’s shoes, bronzed and in cages, to draw attention to the inhuman practice of the current administration of separating children from their parents at the southern border and keeping them in cages.

This event could not be more timely or significant. Portland’s recent “Proud Boy” protest has left many people with a desire to build connections, show compassion, and participate in something uplifting. Additionally, on Aug. 21st, the administration announced plans to adopt a new policy of indefinite detention of migrant families and children.* Children in custody have not been, and will not be, vaccinated against influenza, despite three flu deaths already reported.* Continued attention to this issue could be a matter of life or death to a child.

The community building event will also feature live performances by Latinx and Indigenous musicians.

The shoes will be for sale and visitors are invited to become a part of the project by displaying them in their own neighborhoods! All Proceeds will go to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services – RAICES.

ABOUT THE BRONZE SHOE INSTALLATION PROJECT: Aimee Sitarz created the project last June when the media began exposing the cruel and intentional separation of children from their parents at the southern border. She displays these bronzed children’s shoes throughout the city - challenging compassion in certain places, inviting it in others. The shoes have become a moral symbol, reminding us of these deliberate cruelties and begging us to not look away. These children are precious and we must not forget about them.

ABOUT LENTS COLLECTIVE: Lents Collective is a partnership for FREE community events, classes, and shows meant to promote a culture of inclusivity and love. Join us in Lents for queer stand-up comedy, community clothing closet, body positive dance classes, art shows, and more!
